Bilingüe: Inglés & Español
As a Hispanic woman whose first language is Spanish, I bring both cultural understanding and lived experience to my work. I am deeply passionate about serving the Hispanic community and providing culturally responsive, compassionate care in both Spanish and English. I understand the importance of feeling seen, heard, and understood, especially when navigating life's challenges. In addition to my work with the Hispanic community, I have extensive experience supporting individuals from diverse cultural, social, and personal backgrounds, including members of the LGBTQ+ community. I strive to create a welcoming, affirming, and inclusive environment where every client feels respected, valued, and safe to be their authentic self. My approach is grounded in a strengths-based philosophy, recognizing that each person possesses unique abilities, resilience, and potential for growth. I believe therapy is a collaborative process, and I work alongside my clients to identify their strengths, overcome obstacles, and develop practical tools that help them achieve their personal goals. My goal is to empower each individual to build on their existing strengths, foster meaningful change, and create a more fulfilling life. Outside of my professional work, I enjoy spending quality time with my family, exploring the outdoors through hiking, staying active through exercise, and embracing opportunities to recharge and connect with nature. These experiences help me maintain balance in my own life and reinforce the importance of overall wellness—something I encourage and support in my clients as they pursue their own well-being.

I earned my Master’s degree in Social Work, driven by a passion for mental health, advocacy, policy, and systems-level work aimed at improving access to care and supporting meaningful change. I grew up in competitive sports, an experience that shaped my understanding of resilience, discipline, performance pressure, and personal growth. These experiences continue to inform my clinical work and my approach to supporting clients in building insight, coping skills, and self-compassion. I work with individuals across the lifespan, from young children as young as three through older adults, supporting a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and life challenges. My approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and individualized, with an emphasis on practical, evidence-informed tools that help clients navigate stressors, build resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change. I take a holistic approach to care and strive to understand each client within the context of their lived experiences. My goal is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to explore challenges and work toward goals aligned with their values.

Hello, I'm Floyd Helderman, a mental health therapist at Bright Space Counseling. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and families, and I strive to create a welcoming, supportive environment where clients feel comfortable expressing themselves and developing the skills they need to overcome life's challenges. Before becoming a therapist, I worked with children and families through Head Start and served as an elementary school counselor. Those experiences gave me a strong foundation in supporting children both in the classroom and in their everyday lives, and they continue to shape my approach to therapy. I have a special interest in helping children improve emotional regulation, build healthy coping skills, strengthen relationships, and develop confidence through developmentally appropriate, engaging, and play-based therapeutic approaches. I believe every child and family has unique strengths, and I enjoy partnering with them to help them navigate challenges and achieve their goals. I am committed to ongoing professional growth and to providing compassionate, client-centered care that helps children and families feel heard, supported, and empowered.
